Are Sports Fun Again in Philadelphia?

Alright yo I am back. The Eagles are 5-1 heading into a winnable match up against the Redskins, the Flyers are on an absolute offensive-tear, the Sixers are one healthy Embiid away from a playoff berth, and the Phillies are the Phillies. A city that headlines Carson Wentz, Zach Ertz, Nolan Patrick, Claude Giroux, Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Aaron Nola, and Rhys Hoskins has every reason to be be excited for the next 10-15 years. This is some serious talent.

The Eagles

A 5-1 record, best record in the NFC East, best record in the NFC, tied for the best record in the NFL and an MVP candidate? What a start to the season. The offense with all of the new pieces are clicking. Wentz is putting up MVP numbers, Ertz has been one of the best tight ends this season. Remember that man Agholor that could not catch a cold? Hes catching a lot more than that this season. This defense is right now without Ronald Darby, Sidney Jones and they have been forced to play a few games without Fletcher Cox yet this unit still boasts the best running defense in the league and have been trusted to make some huge stops. The coaches have utilized a running back by committee ever since Sproles got hurt and Legarrette Blount with some assistance from Wendell Smallwood (another injury) and Corey Clement are now posting remarkable numbers as a unit. The offensive line was dogshit the first couple games, now they are one of the best in the league. I am tempering my super bowl expectations but this team is good.

The Flyers

After some stroke of luck securing the second overall pick in this past year’s draft, the already-bright future looks brighter. Moving Giroux to the wing has sprung a dominant first line of Giroux, Voracek, and Couturier. half of this team is younger than 24, that is downright insane. Our goalie situation is similar to last year’s, just 2 average goalies that can have above-average moments. Yes, our defense still has AMac in the lineup and I am dying to see Morin come up this season. Ghost is off to a stellar offensive start, Nolan Patrick is making some flashing plays, and this team has 13 goals in the first 2 home games. Voracek already has 10 assists, Ghost has 9, Simmonds has 5 goals and Couturier leads the league in plus/minus. If the Flyers keep up this play, the playoffs should be in play. I give it a couple years for this team to play together before I seriously consider them cup-contenders but it is all about who gets hot at the right time.

Trust the Process! Joel Embiid is virtually unguardable, he is just too big and physical for anyone to keep up with, and he has a pretty jump shot. Ben Simmons is only 21 and he is built just like Lebron. I am not saying he is the next Lebron but he is the first Ben Simmons. He is on the verge of building his own legacy and being one of the better forwards in the league. Simmons is slated to start the season as a 6’10 point guard, which is alarming because the first overall pick is riding the bench to start. Simmons wants to play the point and if he has success bringing the ball up then this can become a permanent thing for him and Fultz’s future can be at shooting guard. JJ Redick and Robert Convington are two refined three point shooters. The only thing that will stand in the way of the Sixers this year is the health of Joel Embiid. I understand the frustration of the minute-restriction being placed upon him but fans go out to these games to see Embiid, though I do hold my breath every time he lands awkwardly. The sky is the limit, this team can accomplish alot.

Every parent always tells their kid that they love them all equally no matter how much more likable one is than the other. Though the Flyers, Eagles, and the Sixers are all competing in their leagues meanwhile the Phillies just lost 96 games. There is some exciting buzz revolving around this team. Rhys Hoskins seemed to hit a homerun every single game and had one of the best 50-game starts in MLB history. Franco is a bit worrisome for me, his homerun total is still up around the 25 range but his batting average and RBI’s have gone down. Odubel Herrera is still playing good ball, we do not know exactly what we have in JP Crawford yet. The Phillies are working on getting the younger prospects with the big club which was proven by the fact that their oldest player at the end of the season was 27 year old Freddy Galvis,
