Today the Eagles announced the signing of former Patriot LeGarrette Blount. This almost certainly spells the end for Ryan Mathews (hopefully.) Blount is coming off of a 1,000 yard season and 18 touchdowns, the 18 touchdowns were a league high.
Blount turns 31 in December but it is nice having a running back this season to take the pressure off of Wentz and our passing attack. Blount is not going to catch a lot of passes out of the backfield, he has only 45 career receptions and 1 career receiving touchdown. Now we have a downhill runner who can convert on short yardage situations.
Roseman has reloaded this entire offense. The Blount signing caps an off season that included the addition of 4 receivers and a running back who has the size and measurables to step in and replace Darren Sproles once he calls it quits. This offense is loaded with play makers and Carson Wentz has no reason not to succeed this season.
The biggest question marks on offense remain along our offensive line. Jason Peters is going to retire soon, no one knows what is going on with Jason Kelce, Brandon Brooks is penciled in as a starter but we need depth due to his anxiety holding him out of games. I liked the Chance Warmack signing a lot and I could see him starting once the season rolls along.
This offense is loaded and it is about time we stop making excuses and just perform. Wentz now has a solid group of pass catchers, a running back that can take the pressure off of him and an improved offensive line with some depth.
